The summer is almost over, but the most colorful season of all is ahead of us – autumn. The colors of the trees turn into all kinds of shades and start to make the mountains look astonishing. That is why I have prepared for you 16 autumn coloring palettes that will inspire your coloring!

People say that the best color combinations come from nature! And this is true! One of the best designs are inspired by the colors of nature. This is because they look amazing don’t they! And when you are stuck on which colors to use you better take a walk outside as pretty much everything out there could trigger your inspiration. I have talked about this before in How to Choose a Color Palette for Adult Coloring Books.

This is why I have currated those wonderful autumn images and made autumn coloring palettes out of them. So next time you wonder which colors to use for your coloring page or you just wish to have a autumn feel to your next DYI project, take a look at those images below for inspiration.

And remember… you don’t need a lot of colors to make your project or coloring page look amazing! Sometimes up to 5 colors is the best range. 2 of those colors should be very contrasting and the others can be some kind of a nuance of the primary color. This way you can make good contrast between important elements using the contrasting colors. The others you can use for shades by mixing them together.

Adult coloring is are not just a hobby. The world went crazy and totally fell in love with this old new trend and so did we!

But a lot of people don’t know about the benefits of adult coloring!

I recently shared my hobby with some friends and other students at university were wow-ing all the time.

“That’s so cool!”.

Of course I got also asked “Aren’t you too old for this?“, “Why do you waste your time?”.

I’ll tell you that – coloring is for everybody and we have a list the benefits of adult coloring!

Don’t listen to anyone who is telling you they are too old for them!

In this article I will show you the top 7 reasons why you should start coloring today.

So lets begin and make you a coloring addict…

!["me-time"]("https://unibulpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/me-time.jpg")
Do you ever feel like isolating and need to spend more time with yourself?

Probably yes, especially if you’re an introvert or just stressed out. Adult coloring is a great way to share both with friends and you & yourself.

Grabbing a cup of tea or a glass of wine, playing some nice playlist in the background and filling some mandalas in pastel colors.

Sounds like a nice evening, right?

Sometimes all you need is to distract yourself from social media, night clubs or just the daily schedules, and spending 30-60 minutes coloring seems like a good way to look after yourself and the time on your own.

![""]("https://unibulpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/inner-child-1.jpg")
Coloring is a childish activity? That’s insane!

By the list of the top coloring books worldwide, you can see that this trend is now massive.

Overall, age is just a number. Labelling activities by age groups is nonsense.

Passing through an empty playground and looking back at the swings, I’m only ashamed to get on them and just feel like I’ve turned back time.

So what?

Feeling 6 again may make us feel younger, more confident and happy.

That pure happiness that adults seem like they have forgotten.

A little know-how: coloring for grown ups includes not only mandalas and flowers but different shapes and animals. Just like when we were 5!

![""]("https://unibulpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/stress-free-1.jpg")
Yes, therapists have approved adult coloring as an effective way of dealing with stress and handling with some mental health and emotional issues.

The Monday to Friday, 8-12-hours working day schedule is devastating, isn’t it?

Sometimes you need to just sit and chill out a bit.

Getting home and going grocery shopping, then doing some household things can’t quite distract you from the busy day you’ve just had.

Spending an hour a day with your color pencils and adult coloring pages is a total mood booster, it helps you to focus on something else than work and obligations.

Have you tried sweary word coloring books? It’s a great anger management and a beautiful yet sassy way to deal with emotions regarding your boss, ex-boyfriend or just the neighbour’s dog.

!["family-time"]("https://unibulpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/family-time.jpg")
If you’re a parent you may sometimes think that you don’t spend enough time with your children.

As just being kids, they need your atteintion and let’s be honest – you don’t always feel like playing Legos or attending a tea party.

While some prefer video games and watching movies and cartoons, why not coloring?

If your kiddo has some artsy views and talents you can even share your Mandala or Animal Pattern themed books with him so he or she can become a pro!

Hint: If the kids see you enjoy coloring they would probably take interest in what mommy or daddy is doing !["😉"]("https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/2.3/72x72/1f609.png")

!["concentration"]("https://unibulpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/concentration.jpg")
Have you tried meditation?

Focusing on just one thing helps you distract yourself from the thousands of thoughts that come and just go by through our heads.

Shut that voice up and concentrate on your coloring page – you are free to experiment with different types of pens and pencils, color palettes.

You are already given the “frame” – all you need to do is to grab the colors that stand for your current mood, fill that bloody flowers or letters and voila.

Even if you don’t quite know how to do it, it’s not that hard.

We have also an article on how to choose a color palette for your adult coloring book if you are stuck dwelling over this.

And by the time you’re thinking about which color to pick next, you have already forgotten all your side problems and learned how to focus on this exact one thing!

!["brain-halves"]("https://unibulpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/brain-halves.jpg")
Left brain, right brain – always working together.

There are many theories on left/right brain differences and while one is more logical and analytical, the other one is described as more intuitive and creative.

However, both halves have important roles.

No one is either fully “left brained”or “right brained”.

According to some researches in the last few years we’re both!

Scientists have also found some keys for brain “improvement” and intellectual stimulation.

Encouraging your attention via new ideas, thinking, reading, challenging yourself with new tasks or problems, meeting new people, chatting and…

…coloring of course
Although we use both sides of the brain, some of us describe themselves as either left or right brained.

Left-brained thinkers have critical thinking, logic, mathematical, scientific skills while the right ones, on the other hand, prefer more expressive and creative tasks.

Yes, if you need right half type of activities to balance the things out, music, writing, coloring and other types of creative tasks are the perfect choice.

!["everybody"]("https://unibulpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/everybody.jpg")
How many times you have imagined a shape or an illustration in your head, grabbed a pen and then felt disappointed by the ending result?

Yes, sadly, it never turns out how you’ve imagined it.

Do you know there is a simple way of getting rid of that annoying feeling and staying in the artsy zone?

And that simple way is…

…YES, coloring of course!

Let’s be honest, not everybody has that impressive talent for sketching or drawing.

However, everybody has a talent to color.

You may be 5 or 35, or even 65 – what’s the matter?

All you need is a pack of rainbow colored pens, imagination and willingness to experiment.

There’s no need to stick to specific color schemes and palettes. The cool thing in coloring for grown ups is that there are no rules and limits on how you express your mood and feelings.

So those are our top 7 reasons why adult coloring books are good for you.

Don’t forget to share them with your friends on social meadia by clicking the share buttos below!

Although both coloring books have the same images inside, it looks like most of the people prefer the one with black background.

It seems to make the illustrations pop after they have been colored.

Absolutely love this coloring book. I wanted a black background coloring book to bring out the vibrant colors of gel pens, and this book fits the bill beautifully. The images are creative and well fleshed out. The paper is a bit thin and curls easily if the ink is too wet, but that does not take away at all from the beauty of the book. Very satisfied with this purchase and would recommend for anyone looking for a Midnight coloring book.

Furthermore if you make a mistake it is barely noticable on the black background

I guess that people are just creazy about owls 🦉

Who wouldn’t love those amazing little night creatures!

Anyways….

This coloring book has some amazing designs. Some people find them similar to Johanna Basford’s coloring books.

The book has 31 stunning designs that you can color.

The owls are covered with flowers, paisleys, and other fun-to-color patterns. !["🌼"]("https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/2.3/72x72/1f33c.png")

The coloring pages are printed single-sided and are perforated. This way you can rip your piece of art an hang it somewhere after you are finished.
Not a lot of coloring books have that!

However some people might find the tight spaces in the designs hard to color in and sometimes even frustrating because of the details.

beautiful images and very detailed pages. If you aren’t able to color in small areas, this might not be the book for you.
Sirius Reviewer (Amazon Customer)
If you don’t like lots of details this book is not for you.

Below you can see a speed coloring of one of the pages in the coloring book.

The artist from the video says in the discription:

We used permanent Sharpie markers for this coloring page. We love the vibrant colors of the Sharpie markers. Please note that Sharpie markers may bleed through the coloring page.
Sherri from Family Toy Report
So keep in mind that markers may bleed through the pages but it is a good thing that you can rip them off the book before starting coloring.

That way you won’t mess up the other coloring pages below.

amazon.com

I wanted to include one or two swear word coloring books with animals in this list for the people who love the style
So here is the first one… ⤴️

This coloring book has been in the top #1000 books on Amazon for a long time now.

And the reason behind this is the price again.

$4-$5 for a coloring book is a great deal isn’t it?

Hold your horses…

…before you click on the buy button and keep on reading the review…

Lets see what are the negative aspects of the book.

A lot of the negative reviews on this book keep stating that the swear words in this book are being too vulgar and even sometimes…

…not understandable !["😕"]("https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/2.3/72x72/1f615.png")
There are words like D*ckwod, S*thhouse, C*mbubble, C*m$lut…

I don’t even understand those words and the meaning behind
So keep this in mind if you want to buy this book for a gift. This is NOT for people who are easily offended or don’t like swearing.

And now lets see the positives of the book.

When buy this book you will get 27 swear word coloring pages with animals.

Each of the pages is printed single-sided to avoid bleed through. Most of the books are like that.

However one of the special things about this book is that the author provides a secret link inside the book from which you can get a PDF version of the book and print it as many times as you wish.

No need to buy another copy if you want to color the same design twice!

Quite generous from the author in my opinion.

Also this book has a midnight edition which has black background behind the designs so when coloring it makes the picture pop.

$4.66

amazon.com

!["Adult]("https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51qMX17-yqL.jpg")

$4.99

amazon.com

This coloring book has the amazing 40 Illustrations inside

…most of the coloring books have around 30 and this one has tried to up the number a bit.

However, as you can see from the video below there are a lot of similar images of butterflies and fishes that are perhaps used as “fillers”.

While you get a lot of coloring pages at an amazing price, some people have reported that the images inside the book are pixelated and blurry.

Others write in their reviews that some of the images have really tight spaces that are hard to color into.

So at most you would get around 25 images that are great to color
Hey… this is still a great deal for a book like this which sells for around $4-$5.

However, I wouldn’t recommend buying this if the price goes above $5.

It is just not worth it.

You would find better books for price above that level
Just follow the book price with the chart below

$4.99

$6.35

amazon.com

If you have been coloring for quite some time now you must have seen this coloring book before.

This book has over 40 Illustrations inside printed single sided.

This way you won’t ruin a design printed on the other side. Just make sure you put some sheets of paper between the pages to prevent bleed through.

However, the images are very inconsistent in style.

Seems like a collection of illustrations from different authors. (like many of the other books)

Which is not nececery a bad thing but keep in mind that you will not get the same style images.

Furthermore, some peole report that the images have very tiny details that are hard to color.

[…] Illustrations are very detailed, and some are more than diabolically detailed very tiny […]
Jackie Cooper
I am sure that the author just wanted to make sure there is something for every coloring level.

Also you will get some really great designs with this book. Some of the images are very interesting and unique in concept and it is deligthful to color them.

If you want to check out what kind of designs you will get, watch the flip-through video below:

$6.35

$5.99

amazon.com
This coloring book is just made for dog lovers and is a perfect gift!

With 31 cute dog illustrations this one is an amazing addition to anyone’s collection.

The book is glue bound and with 8.2 x 0.2 x 11 inches for dimantions.

When you open the book you will find that the dogs are surrounded with different kind of flowers and other little details that you can color in.

Maybe some people might find that there is over-abundance of hearts and flowers on each page which can make a cluttered appearance.

The one thing that I liked very much in this book is the thin line borders around each page design which adds a pleasing visual aspect and a finishing touch.

However, the dogs’ mouths, eyes and the surrounding flowers and decoration seem to be the same on each coloring page. The author has just resized the flowers and changed some other little things to make a new coloring page.

This and the fact that there are only dogs in this book will make some people quit coloring this book after the 3rd page.

It kind of looks like you are coloring the same thing over and over again.

Don’t get me wrong. The designs are definately unique and interesting.

But some people might find them very similar…

amazon.com

This coloring book is one of the cheapest adult coloring books with animals.

As of now that I am writing this the book sells for $3.99 for 50 illustrations inside the book.

…this is an amazing price for so many images!

However, for such a low price you should keep in mind what you are getting.

As with many other cheap end books the illustrations inside are blurry and pixelated.

Also some of the designs might be found in other books of the same kind.

However, if you just like to have a variety of images but you don’t care much about the print quality this is the book for you.

Sine more specifications of the book:

amazon.com
This coloring book has 13 pages featuring birds, 10 pages featuring mammals, and 8 pages with other type of animals.

The illustrations are printed one per page and the book has perforated sheets for easy removal.

There are two fully colored designs that can kickstart you imagination.

However, some people have said that there are not enough detail in the images.

Also the paper is not the best quality but at least you can remove the pages before coloring.

$11.81

$14.00

amazon.com
If we are talking about adult coloring books with animals we can not pass on this masterpiece.

This coloring book has one of the most detailed and intriguing designs for a coloring book.

Some of the pages may take you up to 12h and more to color fully.

Furthermore the paper quality of this book is far better then most other coloring books, but that’s also why you pay a higher price for it.

The size of the book is 10 x 0.4 x 10 inches which gives you a lot of coloring space.

However there are some issues with it as well…

The coloring book has most of the designs spread through both pages. And because of that a part of the images is lost in between the gutter (the place where the pages are glued)

It also appears that they didn’t print the entire image and just stopped at a certain point before the binding. So even if you try to remove the pages from the book you will not get the entire image.

Just a weird dead white space in the middle of the design.

Also keep in mind that the pages are printed side by side and if you use heavy coloring mediums such as markers they will bleed through and it will ruin the page on the other side.

If you want to check out what kind of designs you will get with this book watch the video below.

$8.89

$14.95

amazon.com
This coloring book resembles a lot of the style of Johanna Basford.

A great thing about it is that it is that the images are amazing and super detailed.

However, some people aslo might find some of the details frustrating for coloring.

Some of the designs will take you lots of time to color in.

The paper is thick and heavy but the images are printed 2 sided so don’t use markers or they will leak through to the next page.

Next, some people say that the book will not lay flat so it’s almost impossible to get to the designs in the gutter (the place where the pages are glued)

Also some people might find the directions inside the book somewhat annoying. (“take your time decorating the tortoise’s shell” and “complete the ocean home of this graceful giant using deep blues and greens” and “the snail lives in his shell, help to decorate his home.”)

Some people might find this childish for an adult coloring book.

Anyways, apart from that this book is a great addition to anyones collection.

Take a look at the cloring pages inside from the flip-through video below.

amazon.com

If you love butterflies this coloring books is for you.

This one has 30 illustrations of different butterfly designs that are printed on light weight paper.

Since the illustrations are printed single sided this will prevent ruining the other designs.

Just make sure to place some sheets of paper between the pages.

However, some of the images are not centered. And because of that 7 of the coloring pages are cut of the edge of the page.

Let’s hope the author fixes this soon.

Also some of the images look sketched and not with solid lines.

But for the price you are getting this book it is a fair deal.

Being the latest craze, adult coloring books have evolved into something much more than a Sunday-afternoon activity. Apart from their stress-relief and meditative pros, they bring about a whole new world of colorful possibilities. Even the most short-on-talent people (like yours truly) could find a little creative fire inside.

Everyone could become an artist by simply coloring. But it’s not just the patterns or even the pictures. It’s all about the colors and how you use them.

Surely when you choose your means of coloring, you prefer taking the widest range of hues. But hardly ever would you use all of them at the same time, would you? And that’s quite natural. As humans we’re designed to match things according to their colors so as to create something beautiful and eye pleasing. Just like we daily pick our clothing or make-up.

When it comes to coloring, we often unintentionally choose different palettes to suit our taste and needs. Sometimes they’re bright and vivid, other times – dark and dull. It’s an almost innate choice that we make, based mostly on our present mood.

So, here’s a guide on how to make this palette picking process a little bit more mindful and a lot more fun:

What?

A palette is a range of colors which may vary. Usually a palette is monochromatic – it consists of different tones of the same color. Palettes are widely used by artists, designers and architects for creating inspiring new color combinations.

!["This]("https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61QTm-fb8EL.jpg")

!["This]("https://unibulpress.com/wp-content/plugins/content-egg/res/logos/amazon-com.png")

Why?

Because it makes coloring even more fun. And it’s just so personal!

Do you feel moody and melancholic? Well, an autumn palette might just be the cure for your woes. Are you psyched? If so, go for something colorful and psychedelic. Are you calm and inspired? Delve into those blues and greens!

Where?

Inspiration comes from basically everywhere.

Look around. What do you see?

Maybe it’s your bedroom that you’ve decorated by yourself? Or it’s your work desk? Or maybe you’re looking at a book, magazine, etc.? Notice the book covers and magazine pages – their colors are in perfect harmony, aren’t they? You can even use them later for color reference.

Go outside and walk around. Nature is the Grand Inspirator – pretty much everything out there could trigger your inspiration. Choose the palette of the spring flowers or the rainy skies; trees, grass, leafs, puddles, pastoral fields… It’s all yours if you could only grasp it.

And if you’re more of a city person, you might enjoy the busy streets’ or corporate buildings’ hues.

Finally, you could always use the good old internet. Get online and dig deep into a whole universe of palettes, palette ideas, palette samples, even palette apps… There’re numerous websites for finding color inspiration, just take your time.

!["Swear]("https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/5181Pa9dNQL.jpg")

How?

Choosing the right colors for your palette is the trickiest part. You’ve gone this far and now all you have to do is pick your hues wisely.

Actually, you don’t need too many colors. Even a few would do, if you know how to use them.

It’s good to pick one dominant color and choose the others according to it. You might want to add something neutral as well – just to make the other hues more vivid. You should also bear in mind that the human eye perceives a color differently based on its surroundings.

A good way to pick your palette is to place your pencils (or whatever means you’ve chosen to use) in order and then separate the “cool” from the “warm” colors. In this way you get at least two primary palettes.

Another great suggestion is to make your own color swatch. Take a blank sheet of paper and test out your pencils. Notice how the shades change according to the way you press – harder or lighter, and according to the number of layers you make. You could then try mixing and matching the different colors and create some of your own. You might even create your own color wheel. It would help you distinguish between analogous and contrasting colors. Later on, when you start coloring, if in need, go back to your reference palette sheet. It’s easy as that!

And remember – you’re the artist of your own masterpieces. Don’t be shy, just experiment!

As adult coloring books have gained their fair share of fame, grown-ups can now freely get childish whenever and wherever they wish. There’s nothing to be ashamed of anymore, play the fool as much as you want to.

The thing is, what if getting childish isn’t exactly what you need when somebody pisses you off at work? What if all you want is for the whole world to shut the f**k up? How can a colorful mandala or – let’s say – a bunny help you in this case?

It simply can’t.

If that’s the occasion, you might need something a little bit more adultish. That’s where the new type of adult coloring books comes in handy.

So, just how adult could an adult coloring book become? Turns out, pretty much.

Swear coloring books are slowly but steadily coming to light and everyone’s like – bloody hell, this is f**king genius!

Indeed, it is….

Curse words coloring books take anger management to a whole new level.

And that’s the purpose of an adult coloring book, right?

To calm you down and relieve you from all that stress. And we all know what’s the best way to take it on someone – by cursing the s**t out of them. Those dirty little books could channel all the negative energy and let you swear it all out. And in quite a fancy way, too!

No wonder they’re becoming so trendy!

Sarah Bigwood is the person responsible for all this fuss. The British artist has managed to accomplish what many others have failed in: finding a very innate, very elegant way to release our inner vulgar monsters without actually having to offend anyone (at least not verbally).

How very British!

Sarah’s book, “Sweary Colouring Book,” has all the essential ‘f’ and‘s’ words, plus a little treat for the true “sweary” fans – curses in UK style. From the most common “Bullocks” to “Twat Waffle” – everyone could find a little something for themselves. It’s almost like an educational book, only the things you’d learn from it are British cuss words. Now, that’s something to brag about!

Useful tips:

Swear word coloring books open the doors to a completely new variety of relaxation methods. New opportunities arise, reaching way beyond the usual purposes of adult coloring. They’re meant to subdue your anger by releasing it, not suppressing it.

So you might as well let it all flow out. At first you may find yourself a bit more bitter than before but soon you’d be all cursing and coloring, coloring and cursing.

(and in a good way, too)

Try these and see if these work out for you. If not, you could always f**k this s**t.

It sounds like a piece of cake, right? What’s there so special to know anyway? I mean, after all, we are the adults…

Wrong!

Coloring could be quite tricky and it might quickly turn from pleasure to st(r)ain.

There are different coloring mediums and each one of them has its pros and cons. You’d better be familiar with them before getting started with coloring.

Colored pencils are the most obvious choice for coloring. They’re easy to handle, inexpensive, usually come in a variety of colors and don’t require much technique. Just the good old stroking.

And if you are a bit nerdy, there are specially designed pencils to fit your needs: antibacterial or washable for those of you who don’t want to get scruffy.

Pencils produce nice, soft, light colors. If you’re a fan of ethereal hues then that’s just the thing for you.

DO: You could mix and match, creating dimensional tones by simply cross-hatching. Layering multiple colors with pencils is easy and fun. You couldn’t get wrong with this one. Shading is also an option – use your thumb to smudge it a little or the eraser to slightly blot it. Even if you have one of those huge 60 or more colors pack, you could still make hundreds of other tones. Your imagination is the limit.

DON’T: Pencils don’t work well on heavily textured paper – they can’t fully cover it, thus leaving little blank spots all over the picture. You should also be careful with those lines. While pencils are not that bright and intrusive as markers, they could still somewhat diminish the lines and leave the impression of a job not well done.

Marker pens

Use those only if you’re into the vivid, bright hues. They’re relatively easy to use but require a bit more dexterity if you want to create shades or color layers.

DO: Stay in the lines! You don’t want your painting smeared and blurry lined. You could also try different techniques of adding pressure or stroking to get dimensional tones. Be careful though – if you make a mistake, you can’t go back.

DON’T: Markers tend to bleed and could leave tiny blots on the backside of the paper or outside the lines. So you should consider the paper’s texture before starting to color.

Crayons

Ah, crayons! I’d recommend them just for the smell of it.

Crayons produce light, smooth, subtle colors. They may not be too precise but are way too adorable to miss. And you are getting a wee bit childish by coloring, aren’t you?

DO: What was said about pencils is pretty much valid here as well. Try different techniques, mix and match, play! Pastel colors are so delicate that you might want to add a bit more pressure if it seems too pale to you.

DON’T: be conservative. There’s not much that could go wrong with crayons. Even if it does – who cares? It’s all about enjoying yourself, not competing, right?

Paint

You should be much more cautious with paint (whether it’s watercolor, acrylic or tempera) – it smears, smudges and bleeds over the markings. Apply paint gently, with very delicate and precise strokes. It might take a bit more time, but – so what? You’re doing this to escape from your busy schedule not fit into it.

Shades and layers could easily be achieved with paint, so go have fun!

DO: Experiment. Play, play, play! Use the more vivid tempera with the subtler watercolors. Use the vibrant acrylic to add some life to your coloring.

DON’T: use too much water. Watercolors are translucent anyway. You should also be patient – wait for the paint to dry, don’t turn another page just yet.

Having all this in mind, it should be quite easy for you to choose your own way of coloring. And remember, the most important method of all is using your imagination.
